ADULT SAFEGUARDING CHAMPION TRAINING (LEVEL 3) Monday 26th June 2023
Adult Safeguarding Champion Level 3 is aimed at those who have been designated as the ASC for Safeguarding Adults at Risk and Adults in need of Protection within their organisation. This course will look the Northern Ireland Adult Safeguarding Partnership, the role of an ASC, how to support and inform staff on safeguarding issues, and how to ensure training of staff is up to date.

THIS ONE DAY COURSE IS IDEAL FOR BAND 2 HEALTHCARE WORKERS WISHING TO UPSKILL TO BAND 3. During the course of the day candidates will learn essential clinical skills such as venepuncture, clinical observations, NEWS 2, blood glucose testing, urinalysis, peak flow and inhaler technique. This highly practical course will equip you with the skills necessary to work at Band 3 level.

Phlebotomy / Venepuncture Training- Wednesday 5th July 2023
PHLEBOTOMY / VENEPUNCTURE TRAINING
Candidates: Candidates for this course are expected to be working in a health care setting.
Covid-19 Response

Upon completion of the Venepuncture Course, the candidate will receive a certificate of attendance and a competency assessment booklet. The candidate will then need to complete a minimum of 10 supervised venepuncture practicals on patients in a work setting and get these signed off by a competent supervisor.
Each candidate will have their own venepuncture arm and equipment to practice on.
Course Aim: By the end of the course, candidates will be able to.
- Demonstrate appropriate infection control principles when performing phlebotomy.
- Use both the butterfly system and the vacutainer system to collect a blood sample.
- List the potential complications during and after taking blood.
- Explain procedure in event of a sharp stick injury
Course Content
The course covers:
- The session will begin with a theoretical component followed by demonstrations and then practise.
- Participants will practise on simulation arms.
- Candidates will have the opportunity to use butterfly needles and vacutainer blood taking systems.
Basic Life Support inc Anaphylaxis- Friday 7th July 2023
Basic Life Support (BLS) course covering the up to date skills in CPR (both Adult and Paed), choking, dealing with an unconscious casualty, and practice and use of AEDs. Emergency treatment of Anaphylaxis will also be covered.
Masks are no longer mandatory, however you may wear a mask if you wish to do so.

Clinical Observations and Blood Glucose Checking- Monday 10th July 2023
This Clinical Observation course will cover NEWS 2, vital signs, urinalysis, peak flow, inhaler technique and blood glucose testing.
By the end of this course candidates will be able to:-
- Complete an Early Warning Score Chart - NEWS 2
- State normal parameters for pulse, blood pressure, temperature, respirations and oxygen saturations
- Take a manual and automatic blood pressure, record temperature, respirations, radial pulse, and oxygen saturations
- Explain the difference between Scale 1 and Scale 2 on NEWS 2
- Explain how to assess level of consciousness using AcVPU
- Demonstrate how to take a Peak Flow reading
- Demonstrate how to instruct a patient on inhaler technique
- Carry out a urinalysis
- Take a blood glucose reading
