Phlebotomy / Venepuncture Training Tuesday 27th April 2021
PHLEBOTOMY / VENEPUNCTURE TRAINING
Candidates: Candidates for this course are expected to be working in a health care setting.

Course Aim: By the end of the course, candidates will be able to.
- Demonstrate appropriate infection control principles when performing phlebotomy.
- Use both the butterfly system and the vacutainer system to collect a blood sample.
- List the potential complications during and after taking blood.
- Explain procedure in event of a sharp stick injury
Course Content
The course covers:
- The session will begin with a theoretical component followed by demonstrations and then practise.
- Participants will practise on simulation arms.
- Candidates will have the opportunity to use butterfly needles and vacutainer blood taking systems.

Clinical Observations and Blood Glucose Checking- Thursday 29th April 2021
This course is aimed at health care workers who are required to record and report clinical observations and carry out blood glucose checking in their place of work.
By the end of this course candidates will be able to:-
- Complete an Early Warning Score Chart - NEWS 2
- State normal parameters for pulse, blood pressure, temperature, respirations and oxygen saturations
- Take a manual and automatic blood pressure
- Take and record temperature, respirations and radial pulse, and oxygen saturations
- Explain how to assess level of consciousness using AcVPU
- Take a blood glucose reading
Moving and Handling (People) Thursday 29th April 2021
This course is suitable for all those working in the health and social sector in Northern Ireland who will be involved in the moving and handling of patients.

Developing and enhancing knowledge and understanding of basic principles of ECG in clinical practice.
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
- Develop their knowledge of the anatomy and physiology within the context of ECG
- Anatomy and Physiology within context of ECG
- Using ECG in clinical practice, including 3 lead, 5 lead, and 12 lead placement
- ECG in cardiac assessment
- Basic Principles of ECG interpretation and decision making in care management
