COURSE OBJECTIVES
On completing this course, students will be able to:
- Explain the major governance issues relating to urinary bladder catheterisation
- Explain the structure and function of the male and female urinary system
- Identify the indications for urinary bladder catheterisation
- Describe urethral and supra- pubic urinary bladder catheterisation
- Describe the risk, development and prevention of infection in urinary bladder catheterisation
- Describe the potential adverse events that can occur in urinary bladder catheterisation
- Describe the care strategies that can be employed to both minimise and manage adverse events in urinary bladder catheterisation
- Demonstrate the skill in urinary bladder male and female catheterisation via the urethra
