Cannulation Training - Friday 24th February 2023
This half-day course builds on the Phlebotomy / Venepuncture course to equip candidates with the knowledge and skills to be successful at IV cannulation in a clinical setting.
CANDIDATES MUST HAVE PROOF OF COMPLETING THEIR PHLEBOTOMY/VENEPUNCTURE WITHIN THE LAST 12 MONTHS
By the end of the course, candidates will be able to:
- Definition of I.V Cannulation
- Governance in Practice and Competency
- Legal, Ethical and Professional responsibilities
- Infection Prevention and Control RCN 2016
- Review Vascular anatomy and physiology
- Choosing the correct site and selecting areas to avoid
- Safe sharps disposal and avoiding needle stick injuries
- How to choose the correct cannula size
- Know how to deal with complications
- ANTT - Aseptic Non-Touch Technique
- Be able to correctly care for a cannulation site
- Practical – manikin cannulation
