 Upon completion of th
 e Venepuncture Course\,  the candidate will receive a certificate of at
 tendance and a competency assessment booklet.  The candidate will then ne
 ed to complete a minimum of 10 supervised venepuncture practicals on pat
 ients in a work setting and get these signed off by a competent superviso
 r. 
 Each candidate will have their own venepuncture arm and equipment t
 o practice on.
 Course Aim:   By the end of the course\, candidates wil
 l be able to.
 
 Demonstrate appropriate infection control principles wh
 en performing phlebotomy.
 Use both the butterfly system and the vacutain
 er system to collect a blood sample.
 List the potential complications du
 ring and after taking blood.
 Explain procedure in event of a sharp stick
  injury 
 
 Course Content
 The course covers:

  begin with a theoretical component followed by demonstrations and then pr
 actise.
  Participants will practise on simulation arms.
 Candidates wi
 ll have the opportunity to use butterfly needles and vacutainer blood taki
 ng systems.
