Phlebotomy / Venepuncture Training- Monday 10th June 2024

PHLEBOTOMY / VENEPUNCTURE TRAINING

 Candidates:   Candidates for this course are expected to be working in a health care setting.

Covid-19 Response

Please adhere to NI Government Regulations regarding Covid precautions. Masks are no longer mandatory. 

Upon completion of the Venepuncture Course,  the candidate will receive a certificate of attendance and a competency assessment booklet.  The candidate will then need to complete a minimum of 10 supervised venepuncture practicals on patients in a work setting and get these signed off by a competent supervisor. 

Each candidate will have their own venepuncture arm and equipment to practice on.

Course Aim:   By the end of the course, candidates will be able to.

  • Demonstrate appropriate infection control principles when performing phlebotomy.
  • Use both the butterfly system and the vacutainer system to collect a blood sample.
  • List the potential complications during and after taking blood.
  • Explain procedure in event of a sharp stick injury 

Course Content

The course covers:

  •  The session will begin with a theoretical component followed by demonstrations and then practise.
  •  Participants will practise on simulation arms.
  • Candidates will have the opportunity to use butterfly needles and vacutainer blood taking systems.

Full day - MH and BLS inc Anaphylaxis Monday 10th June 2024

BELFAST

FULL DAY STUDY DAY

Basic Life Support (including anaphylaxis) and Moving and Handling in one day.

 

Masks are no longer mandatory, however you can choose to wear masks if you wish. These will be provided, or you are welcome to bring your own.

Hand sanitizer is available at reception and in the classroom.

Please come suitably attired for the practical aspect of the course.

 Tea, coffee and snacks will be provided.

Cannulation Training - Monday 10th June 2024

BELFAST

This half-day course builds on the Phlebotomy / Venepuncture course to equip candidates with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to undertake IV cannulation safely and effectively in a clinical setting.

Candidates must have completed a Phlebotomy / Venepuncture course with Safe2Care to be enrolled in this course. Candidates must also have completed their supervised practice in venepuncture before attending this I.V Cannulation course.

Upon completion of the course,  the candidate will receive a certificate of attendance and a competency assessment booklet.  The candidate will then need to complete a minimum of 10 supervised practicals on patients in a work setting and get these signed off by a competent supervisor. 

By the end of the course, candidates will be able to:

  • Definition of I.V Cannulation
  • Governance in Practice and Competency
  • Legal, Ethical and Professional responsibilities
  • Infection Prevention and Control RCN 2016
  • Review Vascular anatomy and physiology
  • Choosing the correct site and selecting areas to avoid 
  • Safe sharps disposal and avoiding needle stick injuries 
  • How to choose the correct cannula size
  • Know how to deal with complications
  • ANTT - Aseptic Non-Touch Technique
  • Be able to correctly care for a cannulation site 
  • Practical – manikin cannulation

BAND 3 UPSKILL - 1 DAY COURSE Wednesday 12th June 2024

BELFAST


THIS ONE DAY COURSE IS IDEAL FOR BAND 2 HEALTHCARE WORKERS WISHING TO UPSKILL TO BAND 3.  During the course of the day candidates will learn essential clinical skills such as venepuncture,  clinical observations, NEWS 2, blood glucose testing, urinalysis, peak flow and inhaler technique. This highly practical course will equip you with the skills necessary to work at Band 3 level.

This course is suitable for all those working in the health and social sector in Northern Ireland who will be involved in the moving and handling of patients.

Please come suitably attired for the practical aspect of the course.
